The 63rd Commission on the Status of Women (CSW 63) will take place from 11-22 March 2019. This yearly event allows the CSW, a functional commission of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) to meet to create global policy to support and empower women and girls.
Each year the CSW brings UN member states, UN entities and civil society organizations together to collaborate and agree on a conclusion surrounding a theme. At CSW 62, the theme was challenges and opportunities in achieving gender equality and the empowerment of rural women and girls. This year’s theme is social protection systems, access to public services and sustainable infrastructure for gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls. All member states make edits to a draft of the conclusion and then discuss, negotiate and, hopefully, agree on a final document. The value in this approach is that many nation states with different philosophies and ideologies come together to support the same conclusion for the advancement of women and girls worldwide.
This year, the ISACA SheLeadsTech program has been awarded a parallel event to the CSW, through the support organization NGO CSW New York. The event will occur on 13 March from 8:30-9:30 am EDT (UTC -4 hours) in the Gallery at 4 W 43rd Street. Visit NGO CSW for more information on parallel events. Many nongovernmental organizations are in New York, New York, USA, during the duration of the CSW and work with each other and other countries to support the work being done.
